Doubt You Don’t Own Me

I’m coming to the end of another book.  Before I start each book and before I start reading every day I invite God in and make this lesson personal.  I ask Him to open my heart and mind that I may learn the lessons He has planned for me and that I am changed and renewed through His lesson.

Sometimes I love the lesson He teaches, and I feel like life could never be better; yet, other times He asks me to unpack some heavy stuff, to get dirty, cry, and then unpack more.  But in the end, I’m standing taller than before I started the lesson and I’m standing closer with Him hearing him say “now, doesn’t it feel better to not carry that anymore?”

“The Chrisitian life is not a constant high.  I have my moments of deep discouragment.  I have to go wto God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, ‘O God, forgive me,’ or ‘Help me.’ ~ Billy Graham

Life can often seem very discouraging. One thing after another can build up and have us looking around wondering if just one thing could go right.

With, what seems like, a million things on my plate it is easy for me to go from feeling great to feeling discouraged and overwhelmed.  Dishes, laundry, sports… It’s easy to take my eyes from looking up to looking within – feeling heavy-hearted and filled with doubt and discouragement.  “I am not cut out for this” “I’m not enough”… they ring in my mind like truth

It can be so hard to see our doubts and discouragements for what they really are ~ Lies

Over the last few years, I’ve realized the weakness in my mind and know that the only way to disarm the enemy is to equip myself with the weapons God has given us in His Word.  So, I use my bible app to search keywords when I’m feeling a specific way – for example when I’m feeling joyless – I’ll search for joy verses.  It really helps to reshape my mind and replace the doubts with truths.

If you’ve read any of my other blogs you know, I’m a type-A organized woman, so I found an app that allows me to organize my favorite verses by topic.  I have created verses for joy, divine power, ones to help with my food issues, humility, trust, obedience… Each time I feel overcome by these – I turn to my app and review the verses I have saved – if I don’t find the relief I need there I go back to my bible app and search the key issues and find more verses that will give me the weapon I need to defeat the current attack.

Doing this routine tends to help a lot. However, I have recently noticed that Satan is learning how to use the bible verses I love to create shame in me.  I’ll have a bible verse come into my mind, and I’ll instantly feel like a horrible Christian. If you ever have this happen to you, please know – God does not shame us – that’s Satan!  If Satan used scripture to try and tempt Jesus, don’t you think that will be the same tactic he uses to tempt us?

Satan will use scripture to tempt us to increase doubt, depression and discouragement. We must dicern God breathed truth and twisted Satan lies

We need a Plan

It’s war, constant war.  I feel like the closer I get to God, the harder the attack is. It takes even more focus and a sincere commitment to the battle plan.

Today, I stand up against feelings of doubt, discouragement, depression, shame… They are no longer welcome here.  How about you, are you with me?

“…No weapon turned against you will succeed.  You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you…” – Isaiah 54:17

No weapon will success with our battle plan.  First, we must be willing to allow God’s truth into our hearts, to keep our eyes focused on Him at all times and to trust that He fights for us.  (if he is for us who can be against us)

Second, we need to be armed in the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18)

Third, we need to keep our minds right – focused on hope and truth and not focused on our internal day-to-day battles.

Let’s let truth repeat in our heads more than doubt.

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers. – Psalm 1:1-3

Enjoy this great song – Fear, you’re not welcome here…
